The ceramic jar, Pithari, is used nowadays as decoration in the garden or in the yard. However, its importance during the pro-refrigerator era was great, as it was used to store food and liquids (such as olive oil and wine) for many months or even years.

Today the pitharia decorate our gardens and courtyards. But before the age of the refrigerator their importance was vital in domestic economy since people were storing the fruit of their labour for months even years.”
